World economic recession for last few years affected almost every
industry probably maritime industry experienced the worst condition.For
this financial crisis a huge number of ship went to the scrap yard and a
good number moved out from the operation.As a result a big number of
ships crew lost their job and its become nightmare for freshers to
manage jobs on board ship.Top four rank professional still going
smoothly while junior professionals are passing real hard time.
Newly passed out cadets are getting frustrated waiting for a long period of time not getting job.In such tough situation the crisis has become a breeding ground for job agent and fraud shipping companies to do profitable business.In often cases they are charging 3000$-5000$ in the name of service charge and very often it came to our sight that agent flew away with the money.Cadets and Junior officers leading their life giving tuition and doing odd job at cheap salary.
In such situation these ill fated youths don't even know what to do and whom to blame.So tried to sort out the actual reasons behind this deadly crisis.
2. Approving vast number of training institute in a short while
Irrespective of the market condition higher govt. maritime authorities approved a large number of training institute to run their training operation. As a result these institutes produced a huge number of freshers where it is quite impossible to consume this number in present situation. Which caused acute unemployment for these youths.Additionally these institutes advertise with bullshit alluring offers which makes some boys confused.
3. Visa problem
In present hectic world getting visa for joining ship or signing off from ship became very difficult for some country like bangladesh,pakistan and so on . For such problems owner of the ships Try to avoid employing from such countries in order to decrease difficulties.Which makes foreign job market narrow for these professionals.As Local shipping job market is small in comparison to our employee number we have to depend upon foreign principle for smooth placement procedure.
4. Less job offer
It may sound harsh but we have to admit that even today it's very difficult to get a job without any references.There have been many cases where average quality cadet got jobs in re known shipping companies where a bright cadet had to wait year after year for not having any references. On the other hand the number of vessel decreased in operation level due to economic recession caused less vacancy of jobs.
5. Less demands for fresh graduates
Now a days shipping companies are not showing interest on fresh graduates.Companies always ask and care for experience persons which making the job market more harder for freshers. The companies do not entertain newly graduates as respect to the degree or training they have.Companies must understand that appreciating new entries is some how a future investment for them.These guys will be serving them with heart and soul in return for long time.

As the other field graduates have options to enter other industries and domains a mariner job choice is stick with the running ship jobs.This trend must be changed.A graduate can change his track b appearing civil service exam and also he may approach for higher study abroad on various shore job such as port management,MBA in maritime transportation,Chartering and many other subject.Such steps will open some other door of opportunity rather then only running after ships.
