REQUIREMENTS OF ISPS CODE: SECURITY LEVELS.

SECURITY LEVELS
Ships will operate at a security level as instructed by CSO, The master of the ship or by appropriate port or flag state authorities

  • SECURITY LEVEL 1- NORMAL-
Ships(or port) normally operates at this level all times.At this level ,there is no known specific threat of an individual  act against the vessel or its location and Minimum appropriate protective security measures maintained.
  • SECURITY LEVEL 2- HEIGHTENED-
Level 2 applies for as long as there is a heightened risk of a security incident incident. This risk level indicates that,although there is a heightened risk of security incident no specific target was has been identified. appropriate protective security Measures will be maintained for a long period of time.
  • SECURITY LEVEL 3- EXCEPTIONAL -
Level 3 for the period of time when there is the probable when there is the possible or imminent risk of a security incident.Although it may not be possible to identify the specific target.For this period of time further specific protective security measures will be maintained.Additionally all cargo work must be stop.All workers from port must be sent to the port back.No person from shore will be allowed to be on board.All entrance must be sealed from shore.

Recent terrorist activities high lightened the issue of maritime security
  1. 1985 cruise ship Achilies Laura Highjacked
  2. 2000 attack in USS code
  3. 2001 11sept, attack in twin tower, NY
  4. 2002 attack on VLCC Limburg.
